Start Over in Ohio

In four years with Carson County, there’s not a panhandle highway,
I haven’t touched - shoveling tar & whacking brush.
Now three weeks before Christmas, there’s a letter from the great State of Texas,
regretting, to inform, me, as such… I read that much.

Lets start over in Ohio - lets pack it in & start anew…
I’ve got a sister in Cincinnati - she’d put me up ‘til whatever job comes through -

I’m missing you & Amie, when I make my morning coffee,
I turn on cartoons - like she’s in the next room.
It’s hopefully temporary, so please give my best to your folks for me,
I don’t see things changing, anytime soon - there’s no more I can do.

Lets start over in Ohio - lets pack it in & start anew…
I’ve got a sister in Cincinnati - she’d put me up ‘til whatever job comes through -
Then I’ll send for you & Amie - she’d make new friends at her new school -
Lets kick the dust off Carson County - and whatever’s wrong with me & you.

Back when we, first bought, our place -
there was nothing that we, would not, face -
Now there’s this quote, to fix, the roof -
There’s more on the note, than the house, is worth -
there’s no reason I should stay,
only bills, that I cannot pay -
just shut the front door & walk away.

Lets start over in Ohio - lets pack it in & start anew…
Or maybe California - I’ll go anywhere you want me to -
Then I’ll send for you & Amie - she’d make new friends at her new school -
Lets kick the dust off Carson County - and whatever’s wrong with me & you.
